A new addition to Huntington Station is Station Sports. It is a phenomenal family and community gathering place. It has mini-golf, an arcade, a batting cage, a paintball shooting rage, and a snack bar. This would be a one-day tournament with four people playing per team. Sign ups could be online or at Station Sports. Teams would be encouraged to make their own uniform, choose their own name, and bring fans to the fan pit! The best score wins bragging rights and their team name and picture hung up. Four!

While Memorial Day has become a day of barbecue’s, sales, and family gatherings that kick off the summer season, let’s all take a quiet moment during the day to remember what this holiday is really all about — Remembering our fallen heroes.

Back in the 1860s, women were not allowed to play on country club golf courses, so putting courses were invented for them to enjoy the lesser aggressive part of the game. As the interest in the sport increased over the years, during the later part of the 20th century, mini golf courses were designed to look like theme parks with windmills, odd characters, and hilly colorful landscapes to attract people to come and play. This started the craze for what was soon to be known as putt-putt golf.

The term “putt-putt golf” was coined after the golf putter which is used to hit the golf ball into the hole. The sport of golf requires a number of clubs and drivers throughout the game, but Mini Golf only requires a putter to play.

The objective of the game is to hit a golf ball into the hole with the least amount of strokes as possible. Some very skilled players can get the ball into the hole with just one stroke, which is referred to as a “hole-in-one.” The distance between the ball and the hole, the angle of the turf, and the placement of the hole are all things to consider while playing mini-golf. The one thing that sets mini-golf apart from regular golf is that the whole family can play a round of mini-golf as opposed to an adults-only game at a country club. Mini golf increases your ability to concentrate, improves your sense of control and the best part is that it’s fun! It’s the perfect family outing venue where even very young children can participate.

Even though adult golfers playing with peers usually go to a country club or public course for a serious game, many come to practice at miniature golf courses to improve their putting skills.

Mini golfing is the perfect past time for the whole family to enjoy. People of all ages can play this game. It is easy and enjoyable to play, and not expensive. Professional golf is a serious game and is very difficult, and time consuming. It takes years to get a handle on the sport and develop the skills and patience to play, but miniature golf is easy to learn by anyone and doesn’t take up that much time in a busy day – unless you want it to.
